An exceptionally sharp
and fast focusing lens, This lens is
a favorite of photojournalists and sports photographers, and anyone
else who can afford to buy one.
Unlike the 24-120 f3.5 VR lens discussed above, the 28-70 f2.8 is not a
lens for all situations. It does not cover wide angle on a DSLR and it does not
substitute for a telephoto. But it is an ideal portrait and 'normal'
lens in low light situations.
You could think of this as the equivalent of a normal 50mm lens (on
a 35mm film camera) with enhanced cropping capabilities.
Equivalent to 42-105mm focal length on 35mm.

This is one of my favorite
light-weight walking around lenses, very similar to
working with one of the super zoom EVF cameras. It has now been kind of
obsoleted by the new 18-200mm DX lens, but for the money it is still
pretty hard to beat and makes a good lens for a beginning photographer
on a budget with a Nikon D50 or D70.
Equivalent to 42-300mm focal length on 35mm.
